I just wanted to share a picture that speaks a thousand words. This is Rick Wyckoff, on Facebook he has a great page called Constructing A New Rick. I connected with Rick through a month long healthy change challenge I was a part of and I have had the pleasure of watching him transform his life by eating healthy #REALFOOD, incorporating more movement into his life and most importantly, make the mindset change that is required for real, lasting change.
When I started on my weight loss journey for the last time, when I finally made it a lifestyle change, not another diet, I experienced the same things. I was also pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and hardly any energy to move. Instead of focusing on the number on the scale I instead just decided that I am worth taking care of and that my health is the core of everything I do. Without health, really, what do we have? If you are sick, can you thoroughly enjoy your kids? If you are weighed down and have no energy, can you get out there and live life to the fullest? I couldn’t. I was tired, sick all of the time, stressed and unhappy about how I looked. I was living half a life. Then I had my “aha” moment and my life changed forever. The number on the scale will go down and you will reach a healthy natural weight when you simply live a healthy lifestyle. #REALFOOD (I lost weight when I STOPPED eating diet food), movement (not necessarily they gym or classes – I lost over 100 lb by walking and lifting 3-5 lb dumbbells!) and believing you are worth it!
Rick is living a healthier life and the numbers show it, and I don’t just mean the numbers on the scale. Does he have more to go until he reaches his optimum healthy weight? Sure, but as you can see – he is already healthier! He shares his awesome encouraging journey on his Facebook page, I encourage you to follow along. He inspires me every post I get a chance to see and I am honored to be able to watch his journey!
I finally “came out” about my weight loss to anyone that didn’t know me prior to 5 years ago at the end of last year. I still allowed myself to think that it was something I should be ashamed of, that I ever let myself be as overweight as I was. The “before” pictures I have are not even me at my heaviest, I hardly allowed any pictures of myself at that time. I am so proud of Rick, and anyone else that shares their journey, for being so open, honest and truly inspiring. I wish I had that courage back then and ability to share! Rick has a lot of people on his Facebook page that encourage each other and are on the same path. It is truly a thing of beauty to watch as they all cheer each other on and share their triumphs, hurdles and daily journey. They show it isn’t all about diet shakes and killing yourself at the gym. They share their healthy lifestyles that include #REALFOOD and even occasional indulgences, the way a balanced life can be – WHILE they are on their way to their healthy weights!
