“Kitchen Rock Star” Profile – Leslie Harvey ” I stood proud in the check out line as we set out all the fresh produce.”
Shining a light on the kitchen rock stars bringing more life to their table with Menus by Mesa de Vida!
Look at this beautiful family! Here is a little bit more about member Leslie!
Chef Kirsten: What do you love the most about Menus by Mesa de Vida?
Leslie: I love the convenience. When menu boards and freezer cooking swept through Pinterest land, I tried my best to achieve a weekly meal plan for our family. I bought all the supplies to make a menu board, I began hoarding cookbooks and digging through them for recipes, and I spent many…many hours trying to organize it all in a way that would make grocery shopping easy and preparing the meals quick. My result? Epic fail. I thought I had everything I needed to succeed. What I was lacking was the time and knowledge. I gave up the first week.
Since then, we tried to decide what we would eat for the week, while we walked the isles of the grocery store. Without a recipe in-hand, this method lead to box and freezer meals. You can only eat so many frozen pizzas or dinners with the world “helper” in the title.
Chef Kirsten: Have you tried other menu planning programs/sites? If so, what made you change to Menus and stay with it?
Just recently, I stumbled onto Kirsten’s website, Mesa De Vida. I’d seen menu services before, but, the price was way too high. When I scrolled through the membership options and saw that it would only cost me $10 a month… I knew there could be some hope for us yet!
We received our first menu and I couldn’t wait to take the grocery list to the store for our first trial! I stood proud in the check out line as we set out all the fresh produce. Not only was it easy to shop, but, I didn’t have to go in the freezer section! (well… unless it was to get some Ben and Jerry’s)
Chef Kirsten: Have a favorite meal so far?
So far, my favorite meal has been the slower cooker turkey. It was quick and easy to put together in the morning and by the time I walked in the door from work, My house was full of wonderful smells! This menu was also a “leftover” menu and I ate leftover turkey on salads, as a sandwich, and my husband included some in his vegetarian fajitas (another Mesa De Vida Menu). Saved me from eating out on my lunch break and gave us a healthy option for late night snacking.
Chef Kirsten: Tell us a little about you!
I am a wife of 8 years, a mother to an amazing little boy, I am an artist and I work full time (out of the home) as a Marketing Manager and Graphic Designer in the Travel and Tourism Industry. When I have free time, I love to work on my personal blog, www.momma-harvey.com. I write about DIY Projects, Graphic Design & Scrapbooking, Motherhood, and my life as a busy, but very blessed, Momma.
Chef Kirsten: For you, what is the most important aspect: time/money savings or having a diverse menu?
Well, from my story above, I would think that time/money savings would be the most IMPORTANT aspect, but, in all reality, a diverse and appealing menu is what keeps us going with Mesa De Vida. Yes, you can find ways to save money and time, but, if you can’t enjoy the process AND the food, what’s the point? We have enjoyed every meal so far and we look forward to Fridays… to see what we will be cooking and eating the following week!
