Study Shows A Low Glycemic Lifestyle Is Best For Keeping Weight Off For Good!
Well, I knew this – I’m a living example.
Below is a video from the Today Show with Joy Bauer, nutrition expert. The video and corresponding article talk about the recent study at Boston Childrens Hospital and their findings.
When I switched my lifestyle to a 90% natural, unprocessed, low glycemic eating plan and STOPPED dieting, I finally lost over 100 pounds and have kept it off for over 5 years. I don’t deprive myself anymore. I don’t stress about what I am eating. I don’t live off of processed bars, shakes, frozen meals anymore, only to lose some weight then just gain it back. I enjoy real food. Delicious, wholesome, clean food that tastes amazing, and not only helps me keep my weight stable but also helps my body stay healthy and fight disease for a long, vibrant life.
This lifestyle also allows me to enjoy an occasional treat without guilt. Real food treats though. I still try to keep almost all processed foods out of my mouth. Not chips, junky fake ice cream or packaged cakes. When I want a treat I will have real ice cream made with milk, cream and real sugar. Neapolitan pizza. Artisan sausages with high quality cheese. Cupcakes with real ingredients, not from a box. The dark chocolate chip whole grain cookies I make for the kids sometimes. The longest living humans don’t eat nothing but vegetables and skip dessert. They just eat the real stuff from time to time. Here is a post I wrote from researching the common traits from the longest living humans, they’ve got something right!
Most importantly, I changed my family’s legacy of heart disease and other preventable weight-related diseases, and hopefully reduced our chances for developing cancer, which is show to be highly related to inflammation. I strive everyday to model for my children a healthy attitude towards food, movement and life.
Why do I not believe in low-carb and low-fat diets? They get results, right? Sure they do, short term and for some, long term. But at what cost to our health? The low-carb diets that have high amounts of protein from meat and other animal products show increased inflammation in the body. They limit, or omit, healthy plant based, fiber rich grains, legumes and starchy vegetables that are shown to fight disease. The low-fat diets severely limit healthy oils and fats that are so good for our bodies. Many low-fat diets rely on heavily processed, nutrition stripped foods as well.
Why go to the extreme when all you have to do is eat real food. I share my recipes for favorites here that are mainly low glycemic and healthy. Every once in awhile a healthy indulgence.
