FAQs

Why are Mesa de Vida products low/no sodium?

Providing you low/no sodium, healthy AND delicious convenient foods is at the core of what Mesa de Vida makes and why we make it. Millions of Americans are directed by their doctors to keep an eye on their sodium intake due to high blood pressure, kidney issues, and more. Heart disease is the #1 killer of Americans. Yet, most of the foods in the marketplace do not serve those of us that need low or no sodium convenience products. (And if they do, they're usually not very tasty!)

I'm on a mission to change that.

As a living kidney donor, and having lost my father to heart disease, I made it my mission to help others to live a heart-healthy lifestyle, if they so choose. Does this mean I'm anti-salt? No. I just believe that YOU should get to make the decision about how much salt goes into your food.

*Mesa de Vida products are DASH Diet & Mediterranean Diet friendly, as are most of our recipes!

Sustainability of Mesa de Vida products

We want to make sure we are not only creating delicious products to help you cook healthier and more amazing meals at home more often, building a business our family can be proud of,  but also making sure we are doing our part to leave this planet in a better place. This is why we are not using any single-use products that take up precious space in landfills. Our products are concentrated so we can use smaller jars, and are packaged in glass that can be recycled.  In addition, many of our ingredients started off as “ugly” fruits and vegetables that are oh-so-beautiful to us, and still as nutritious and delicious as the products destined for the grocery store shelves!

Packing and Shipping -

Our fulfillment facility requires the use of bubble wrap to protect our jars during shipping, and this also minimizes breakage and returns. We want our product to arrive to you safe and sound! We pledge to continually look for more sustainable options that also fully protect your order.

Are Mesa de Vida cooking sauces vegan?

Our healthy cooking sauces are the perfect flavor-packed pantry staple for a vegan or vegetarian diet, as no animal products are used to make our sauces. Just fruits, vegetables, whole ground spices, non-gmo vinegars, and citrus juice.

Why tomato paste?

There is a method to our madness!  Our sauces are shelf-stable and only cooked for a short time prior to being sealed up in glass jars, ready for you to crack them open and cook your delicious, exciting, from-scratch meals with a little help from us. With this brief cooking time, and packing as much concentrated flavor into these little jars of goodness, we found that using tomato paste (made with just non-gmo tomatoes, all concentrated down to delicious goodness) offers so much more rich flavor. Not only that, the paste provides a richer texture, so we are able to use ZERO STABILIZERS in our sauces!

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within the United States via ground shipping.

Are Mesa de Vida products gluten free?

Our healthy cooking sauces do not contain gluten. We source fresh vegetables and the highest quality pure dried fruit, spices, vinegar and salt-free concentrated tomato paste that naturally do not contain gluten. Our sauces are produced at a large, professional commercial co-packer that also produces products for many large, brand name food businesses, and they are held to the highest standards. At this time our products are not certified gluten free as they are produced on equipment that may also process products that may contain gluten containing ingredients. The co-packing team has a strict cleaning protocol to minimize the possibility of cross-contamination, but any item produced on a shared line runs a slight risk of contamination. Customers with severe allergies should consider this individually when deciding whether to enjoy our products. We do intend to get gluten free certification as we grow our brand.

Are Mesa de Vida products nut free?

Our Caribbean sauce DOES now contain Coconut Aminos. Our other sauces do not contain nuts, but they are produced in a facility that may also process tree nuts.
